31 AUG 2016 01:28
Stockholm Monarchs är återigen i SM Final. Det är fjärde året i rad som Stockholm spelar SM Final och denna gång står Leksand för motståndet. Lagen möttes senast i SM Final 2014.

Nedan följer tankarna från Stockholm Monarchs coach Trevor Rooper om den gångna semi-final helgen. In one of the most memorable weekends in my time as Stockholm baseballs manager the Monarchs swept a doubleheader from the Rattvik Butchers to advance to the SM- Final for the fourth consecutive year. Game two was one for the ages as the Monarchs came back and erased a three run deficit finally prevailing with a 6 run 9th inning and winning 10-5. There were numerous stars throughout the day and days like today its easy to understand why baseball is called a team sport, as every player had a positive impact on the outcome and eventual wins.
Game one was controlled by the Monarchs most of the way, but the game was close at the end, but Rattviks rally fell short as Pontus Bystrom came in to shut the door and beat the Butchers 8-6. Game two shall be talked about and revisited for the years to come. In a year with younger players playing a more important role, pitcher Arvid Carlstadt turned in the performance of his career pitching 6 innings and keeping the Monarchs in the game as they struggled to get the big hit. The Monarchs were hitting the ball hard the whole game but the Butchers were up to the task making fantastic defensive plays again and again. After Pontus Bystrom and Mike Cochran pitched scoreless innings, the Monarchs were still trailing 5-4 as they came to the plate in the top of the ninth inning. The Monarchs continued to battle and fight, "I will go to war anyday with this group of players, I would protect them and save them, for they continue to play and play hard," manager Trevor Rooper says. Anyway shortstop Max Hill led off the inning with a walk, then Arvid Carlstadt bunted him over to second, Ricardo Montero hit a sand wedge over the pitchers head for an infield hit, setting the stage for Patrik Wibrons double that scored the tying run, and that was followed by a bloop single from Mike Cochran to plate two more runs, Pontus Byström followed with a hit, as did Matt Merrifield, Björn Johannessen walked, Andrew Carlson then plated a run with a hit, after it was all said and done the Monarchs had put up a six spot in the ninth and Mike Cochran closed the door to win 10-5.
"The baseball gods were watching this game as the 9th inning, we had a couple of breaks that were not had in the earlier part of the game," says manager Trevor Rooper. "There were so many heros in this game its hard to mention one without the other. Björn Johannessens, catching and game calling, Matt Merrifields on field presence and leadership, also the juniors on the bench supporting the team screaming and hollering, and Pelle Högström holding down the fort. Whether its little league, the bush leagues, or the major leagues, the game of baseball is played by a team and the whole team must contribute in order to win consistently. One must be behind one another, supporting one another, its a team game. I love this game, Go Monarchs!!!!
